On the eve of the 78th Independence Day, President Droupadi Murmu delivered a powerful address, emphasizing the importance of upholding the constitutional values that have guided India through its journey of progress. She spoke about how these foundational principles – democracy, justice, and equality- are crucial for India’s future and its standing on the global stage. According to the President, by staying true to these ideals, India can secure its place as a leading nation in the world.

In her speech, President Murmu highlighted India’s impressive economic achievements, which have helped the country rise as a global leader. Over the past few years, India’s economy has shown remarkable growth, with an average annual GDP increase of 8% between 2020-21 and 2023-24. This economic momentum has propelled India to become the world’s fifth-largest economy, and the President expressed confidence that the country would soon be among the top three.

President Murmu also praised the government’s efforts in reducing poverty through initiatives like the PM Garib Kalyan Anna Yojana. She credited the hard work of the Indian people and the visionary leadership that has guided the nation towards prosperity. The President noted that these economic successes are a testament to the strength and resilience of the Indian people.

Climate change was another important topic in the President’s address. She acknowledged the challenges posed by global warming but also highlighted India’s significant progress in combating it. As a global leader in climate action, India has taken substantial steps to address environmental issues.

The President urged everyone to make small lifestyle changes to help fight climate change, emphasizing that every individual has a role to play in this global challenge.

The President also took the opportunity to commend India’s achievements in sports. She celebrated the country’s strong performances in events like the Paris Olympics and the T-20 World Cup, as well as successes in chess and other sports. These accomplishments, she noted, are a source of pride for the nation and reflect the dedication of Indian athletes.

President Murmu highlighted the importance of social justice and equity in India’s growth. She praised government initiatives like the Pradhan Mantri Samajik Utthan evam Rozgar Adharit Jankalyan (PM-SURAJ) and the Pradhan Mantri Janjati Adivasi Nyaya Maha Abhiyan (PM-JANMAN), which are designed to uplift marginalized communities. These efforts are part of the broader mission to build a just and equitable society where every citizen can thrive.

In her speech, the President also spoke about the progress made in gender justice, pointing to significant budget allocations for women’s welfare schemes and the introduction of the Nari Shakti Vandan Adhiniyam. These initiatives aim to further empower women and ensure their equal participation in the nation’s development.

Looking to the future, President Murmu outlined an ambitious vision for India, one that focuses on nurturing the youth as the driving force behind the country’s progress. She highlighted various government initiatives, including a five-scheme package from the Prime Minister, aimed at equipping young Indians with the skills needed to succeed in a rapidly changing world.

As India enters Amrit Kaal- the 25-year period leading up to the centenary of its Independence- the President urged the nation to remain united and focused on achieving its goals. She called on every citizen to contribute to building a stronger, more prosperous, and just India, ensuring that the country continues to shine on the global stage.
