On Wednesday (18th September), an official of the Indian Embassy in Washington was found dead under mysterious circumstances within the premises of the mission. In a statement on Friday, the embassy confirmed the development. Notably, now the case is being investigated by the Secret Service and the local law enforcement authorities in the United States.
According to the media reports, the investigation officials are probing all possible angles including suicide. The Indian Embassy in Washington in a statement said, ‘With deep regret, we wish to confirm that a member of the Embassy of India passed away in the evening of 18th September 2024’. It further added, ‘We are in touch with all relevant agencies and members of the family to ensure the swift transfer of the mortal remains to India’.
The Indian Embassy concluded, ‘Additional details regarding the deceased are not being released out of concern for the family’s privacy. Our thoughts and prayers are with the family in this time of grief. We thank you for your understanding’. Earlier, an Indian national was among six people killed in an attack on the Ali bin Abi Talib mosque in Muscat the capital city of Oman. The Indian embassy in Muscat informed about the casualty and also said that another Indian had been injured in the gun attack on July 16 night.
The incident took place in the Al Wadi Al Kabir area on Monday night. The Indian Embassy in Muscat’s statement on the incident read, ‘Following the shooting incident reported in Muscat city on 15 July, Foreign Ministry of Sultanate of Oman has informed that one Indian national has lost his life and another is injured. The Embassy offers its sincere condolences and stands ready to offer all assistance to the families’.

However, a Bharatiya-origin motel owner was shot dead by a homeless trespasser in Newport city in the US state of North Carolina. On February 10, a 41-year-old Bharatiya-origin IT executive died after suffering life-threatening injuries during an assault outside a restaurant in Washington. Earlier, 25-year-old Bharatiya student Vivek Saini was killed in Georgia state’s Lithonia city by a homeless drug addict.
