Colombo, 07 February (HS): 59 Sri Lankan citizens have died in the war between Russia and Ukraine. All of them died while fighting on behalf of Russia.
Sri Lankan Foreign Minister Vijitha Herath gave this information to the Parliament today. According to the news of Daily Mirror newspaper, in response to a question by opposition member S Sridharan, Herath said that out of 554 Sri Lankan citizens recruited in the Russian army, 59 have died till January 20.
Thousands of soldiers from Russia and Ukraine have died in this war. Moscow has recruited people from not only Sri Lanka but also India and Nepal in its army.
