Prime Minister Narendra Modi will visit the Mazargues War Cemetery in Marseille, France to pay tribute to Indian soldiers who sacrificed their lives during the World Wars. The cemetery houses a memorial dedicated to these brave soldiers, highlighting their contributions to defending foreign lands. As a mark of respect, PM Modi and French President Emmanuel Macron will lay a wreath at the cemetery, reaffirming the deep historical ties between India and France. The visit underscores India’s commitment to honoring its war heroes, even those who fought far from home.
PM Modi is in France to attend the AI Action Summit. While in the country, he will also visit the ITER site, home to the International Thermonuclear Experimental Reactor (ITER), a significant step in advancing nuclear energy for global good.
PM Modi has consistently emphasized the importance of remembering soldiers who made the ultimate sacrifice, particularly those who fought in distant lands. In November 2014, he paid homage to martyrs at the Australian War Memorial in Canberra. On this occasion, he presented the Man Singh Trophy—an artifact from the Sikh regiment battalions—to then-Australian Prime Minister Tony Abbott. Originally made in silver, the trophy was presented to the Officers’ Mess of the 14th Sikhs regiment in 1919 to commemorate their valor in World War I battles across Egypt, Gallipoli, Sinai, and Mesopotamia.
Continuing this tradition, in April 2015, PM Modi became the first Indian prime minister to visit the World War I memorial in Neuve-Chapelle, France. Later that year, in November, he also paid homage at the INA Memorial Marker in Singapore, marking another first for an Indian leader. In July 2017, he visited the Indian War Cemetery in Haifa, Israel, to honor Indian soldiers who fought there. During his Mann Ki Baat address in September 2018, he spoke about the centenary of the Battle of Haifa, praising the bravery of the Mysore, Hyderabad, and Jodhpur Lancers who liberated the city during World War I.
PM Modi has continued to recognize the contributions of Indian soldiers worldwide. In June 2023, during his visit to Egypt, he paid homage to over 4,300 Indian soldiers at the Heliopolis Commonwealth War Grave Cemetery in Cairo. More recently, in August 2024, he laid a wreath at the Battle of Monte Cassino monument in Warsaw, Poland, honoring Indian, Polish, and allied soldiers who fought together during World War II.
Throughout his tenure, PM Modi has ensured that the sacrifices of Indian soldiers—no matter where they fought—are acknowledged and remembered with the respect they deserve. Meanwhile, Prime Minister Narendra Modi urged investors to invest in India’s energy sector, stating that the country offers many chances in view of its renewable energy goals in the next five years. While talking about the target of having 500 GW of renewable energy, 5 million green hydrogen output by 2030 and the launch of fresh bidding rounds for oil and gas assets, PM Modi said “There are possibilities of new investments and I hope that you explore all possibilities in India”.
While addressing the India Energy Week 2025, PM Modi said, “There are many possibilities of investment in these sector”. He said, “You are not just a part of India energy week, you are an important part of India’s energy ambitions”. He further said, “All experts are saying that 21st century is India’s century. India is not only driving it’s own growth but driving global growth”.
