India's Foreign Minister S. Jaishankar presented India's stand on global role in the meeting of Foreign Ministers

Johannesburg (South Africa), 21 February (HS): India’s Foreign Minister S. Jaishankar presented India’s stand on its global role in the meeting of Foreign Ministers of the Group of Twenty (G-20) here. He also met his counterparts.

He said in the ‘X’ post,”The global geopolitical situation remains difficult and G20’s ability to harmonize viewpoints is key to advancing an agreed agenda. Presented India’s position on the Middle East, maritime security, Ukraine conflict, Indo-Pacific and UN reforms. Geo-politics is a reality, as is national interest. There are lessons from the last few years for all of us to reflect on. But equally, an experience to draw upon as we seek to lead the world to a better place.”

The Group of Twenty (G-20) includes Argentina, Australia, Brazil, Canada, China, France, Germany, India, Indonesia, Italy, Japan, Republic of Korea, Mexico, Russia, Saudi Arabia, South Africa, Turkey, United Kingdom, United States as well as the European Union.

Jaishankar has also shared photos and views of his meeting with his counterparts from member countries on X handle. He has met Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov.During this, the continued progress of India-Russia bilateral cooperation was reviewed. Recent developments related to the Ukraine conflict including the Riyadh meeting were discussed. Earlier on Thursday, External Affairs Minister Jaishankar met South African President Cyril Ramaphosa and extended warm wishes to him on behalf of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Jaishankar met many world leaders including Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi and Saudi Foreign Minister Faisal bin Farhan. He has also mentioned Singapore Foreign Minister Vivian Balakrishnan and Brazilian Foreign Minister Mauro Vieira in the X post. Jaishankar also met his Ethiopian counterpart Gedeon Timotheus.
