Port Louis, February 22 (HS): Mauritius Prime Minister Dr. Navinchandra Ramgoolam said in the National Assembly,” India’s Prime Minister Narendra Modi has accepted his invitation. He will be the guest of honour at Mauritius’ 57th National Independence Day celebrations. This is a proof of the close relations between our two countries.”
Members of the National Assembly expressed happiness by thumping the table on this announcement of Ramgoolam.
Ramgoolam said on Friday, “It is indeed a matter of pride for us and the country to host such a distinguished personality. Prime Minister Modi has given us this honour despite his extremely busy schedule, his recent visits to Paris and the United States. He has agreed to come to Mauritius as our special guest.”
On the visit of Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi on March 12, Mauritius Prime Minister Dr. Ramgoolam said, it is a privilege for Mauritius to host the eminent personality on such an occasion.
Last year, President Droupadi Murmu attended the 56th Independence Day celebrations of Mauritius as the chief guest. President Murmu was warmly welcomed by the then Prime Minister Pravind Kumar Jugnauth at the Sir Shivsagar Ramgoolam International Airport. The Ramgoolam-led coalition won the 2024 general elections in Mauritius. It took him a full decade to return to power. Prime Minister Modi also spoke to him while congratulating him on the victory.
Prime Minister Modi had said, ” After the victory, I spoke to my friend Navin Ramgoolam. I congratulated him on his historic victory. I also invited him to visit India. We look forward to working together to strengthen our special partnership.”
