Maharashtra Cyber officials questioned YouTubers Ranveer Allahbadia and Ashish Chanchlani for around five hours in connection with India’s Got Latent show controversy following they appeared before the agency to record their respective statements.
In his statement, Allahbadia who made lewd remarks on the episode, admitted his mistake and took blame for causing the controversy.
What did Ranveer Allahbadia tell Maharastra Cyber Cell?
Ranveer Allahbadia admitted his mistake in his statement to the investigating officer, according to the media reports. He mentioned that his presence on the show was because of his friendship with Samay Raina. He took the blame and stated that it was his mistake to say the line which has caused controversy.
Ranveer also claimed that he did not charge money to go to the show. He said the police officials that the YouTuber community is friends with each other and that’s why they come on each other’s shows as a favour and do not charge a fee for it.
Ranveer Allahbadia and Ashish Chanchalani separately appeared at the cyber headquarters in Navi Mumbai following skipping earlier summons issued by the agency. The Maharashtra Cyber and the Mumbai Police are probing Allahbadia’s controversial remarks on Samay Raina’s YouTube show. The show, India’s Got Latent, became the focus following Allahbadia made crude comments about parents and sex, leading to widespread backlash.
Around 11:30 am Allahbadia and Chanchlani appeared at the cyber headquarters around 11.30 to record their statements. Allahbadia wore a black face mask to avoid media attention. He was seen leaving the headquarters around 5 pm.
He boarded a private cab and left, while Chanchlani departed an hour later in his car. Maharashtra Cyber summoned more than 50 people connected to the show, including guests, judges, social media influencers, and comedians.
On Tuesday, the Supreme Court granted Allahbadia interim protection from arrest, calling his remarks “vulgar” and saying he had a “dirty mind” that shamed society. The court directed Allahbadia to cooperate with the ongoing investigations and deposit his passport with the Thane police to prevent him from leaving the country without permission. The matter has been scheduled for a hearing on March 3.
