Ukraine Accepts U.S. Proposal for Ceasefire

In a suboptimal climax, Ukraine has accepted America’s proposal for a 30-day ceasefire in its ongoing war with Russia. It will be the first strategic pause in the last three years of grinding war affirmed in the critical talks in Jeddah on Tuesday.

Following this, the Trump administration agreed to resume its flow of military aid and intelligence sharing to Kyiv, with a hope that the war will recede soon.

Russia Yet to Respond to Ceasefire Proposal

With Donald Trump pushing Ukraine for a ceasefire, the ball is in the Kremlin’s court to decide whether they want to put a break to the ongoing war or not. According to multiple reports, US representatives have assured of a plausible contact with the Russian officials ‘in the next few days’ but have not specified whether the terms of the ceasefire which were finalised in the US-Ukraine talks will be acceptable or not.

Lengthy Talks Lead to Agreement

Meanwhile, on Tuesday Ukrainian officials came to talks in Saudi Arabia eager to make up and had proposed a partial truce on air and sea attacks. Trump’s advisers sought for more from the deal and said Ukraine agreed to their proposal for a full month-long ceasefire in a war that has claimed tens of thousands of lives.

“Today we made an offer that the Ukrainians have accepted, which is to enter into a ceasefire and into immediate negotiations,” US Secretary of State Marco Rubio said after around nine hours of talks. “We’ll take this offer now to the Russians and we hope they’ll say yes to peace,” Rubio said of Russia, which launched a full-scale invasion of its smaller neighbour in February 2022.

He also informed that the United States would immediately resume military assistance and intelligence sharing it had cut off to pressure its wartime partner following the very public between Trump and President Volodymyr Zelenskyy.

In Washington, Trump said he was ready to welcome Zelenskyy back to the White House and may speak to President Vladimir Putin this week.

When asked a question on a comprehensive ceasefire in Ukraine, Trump answered: “Well, I hope it will be over the next few days, I’d like to see.

“I know we have a big meeting with Russia tomorrow and some great conversations hopefully will ensue.”

Furthermore, Ukraine and the United States released a joint statement in which they said they would conclude a deal giving US access to Ukraine’s rich mineral wealth, which Trump demanded as compensation for billions of dollars in US weapons under his predecessor Joe Biden.

Reportedly, Ukrainian president Volodymyr Zelenskyy, despite being present in Saudi Arabia, did not take part in the talks. He termed the latest development as a “positive proposal” that not just covers fighting by air and sea but also the conflict’s frontline.

Also, The minerals agreement is one such deal that has been in the works for weeks but was thrown into a chaotic situation after a harsh interaction between Trump and Zelensky at the Oval Office last week.

Russia Will Have Demands Too…

Reports suggest that Russia will have their own set of demands in order to agree to the ceasefire- One of which could be Ukraine’s withdrawal from Kursk. Also, demand for removal of NATO from its western flank, could be presumed to be met.
