The Vidyasagar Bridge, inaugurated on October 10, 1992, spans the Hooghly River in Kolkata, West Bengal. Construction began on July 3, 1979, and took over 22 years to complete. At 823 meters, it is India’s longest cable-stayed bridge and among the longest in Asia. It is the second bridge on the Hooghly, following the Howrah Bridge, also known as Rabindra Setu. The 18th edition of the Olympic Games began in Tokyo on 10 October 1964, marking the first time the event was held in Asia. This was Japan’s first major international competition since World War II, showcasing the nation’s recovery and rebuilding efforts.
