Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni has extended her congratulations to Prime Minister Narendra Modi on his third consecutive electoral victory in the Lok Sabha elections. Meloni emphasized her confidence that both leaders will continue to strengthen the friendship between Italy and India and collaborate on various issues for the benefit of their nations.
“Congratulations to @narendramodi on the new electoral victory and my warmest wishes for good work. Certain that we will continue to work together to strengthen the friendship that unites Italy and India and consolidate cooperation on the various issues that bind us, for the well-being of our Nations and our peoples,” PM Meloni expressed in a post on X.
Earlier in the day, several other global leaders also extended their heartfelt congratulations to PM Modi and the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) government on their third consecutive victory. Among them were Nepal’s Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal (Prachanda), Sri Lankan President Ranil Wickremesinghe, and Mauritian Prime Minister Pravind Jugnauth.
The BJP-led NDA is set to form its third successive government at the Centre, with the Lok Sabha election results on Tuesday indicating a significant, though competitive, victory. The NDA is poised to win 291 seats, while the opposition INDIA bloc is expected to secure 234 seats, and other parties 18 seats. The contest was tighter than many exit polls had predicted, which had suggested a sweeping victory for the NDA.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi, addressing supporters at the BJP central office after most of the results were announced, declared that the BJP-led NDA would form its third consecutive government. He described the victory as a testament to the resolve for a ‘Viksit Bharat’ (Developed India), the principle of ‘Sabka Sath, Sabka Vikas’ (Together with All, Development for All), and the strong faith of the people in India’s Constitution.
“This is the first time since 1962 that a government completing two full tenures has secured a third successive term in office. A new history has been created after six decades,” Modi remarked, highlighting the historic significance of the victory.
