Congress Leader Adhir Ranjan Chowdhary, according to the media sources, resigned from the post of Congress President of West Bengal.
The decision was taken this afternoon after the Bengal unit of the committee that was formed to ascertain and discuss reasons behind the party’s poor performance in the state during the recently concluded Lok Sabha elections.
However, there has been no official confirmation from the party on whether the senior leader’s resignation was accepted or not.
Speaking about his resignation, Chowdhury said, ‘Since Mallikarjun Kharge became the Congress national President, there was no State President. Now when the full-time President is appointed all will come to know’.
Chowdhury dismissed the news of his resignation by calling it just a rumour which he didn’t want to talk about.
Chowdhury, who was the Lok Sabha MP from Baharampur constituency in Murshidabad, was defeated by Trinamool Congress (TMC) candidate and former Indian cricketer Yusuf Pathan by around 85,022 votes.
While Chowdhury secured 4,39,494 votes, Pathan managed to garner 5,24,516 votes.
