Uttarkashi, January 14 (HS): Faith prevailed over the biting cold. Dev Dolis took a holy dip in the Ganga during the Brahma Muhurta on the occasion of Makar Sankranti. On this occasion, a large number of devotees took a holy dip in the Ganga and performed puja-archana and gained merit. The municipality has arranged for bonfires for the devotees at the ghat.
A crowd of devotees started gathering at 4 am on Tuesday at the ancient Manikarnika Ghat, Jadbharat, Kedar Ghat, Lakheshwar, Shankar Math, Nakuri, Devidhar, Gangori Assi Ganga Ghat and other bathing ghats of Uttarkashi from rural areas to take a holy dip.
Dozens of Dev Dolis from rural areas around the district headquarters reached Manikarnika Ghat in Uttarkashi with drums and trumpets to take a holy dip in the Ganga. On the occasion of the bathing festival, thousands of devotees reached Uttarkashi with palanquins, drums, flags etc. of dozens of deities including Kandar deity of Barahat region, Tripura Mata of Badagaddi region, Chandannag, Rajrajeshwari, Harimaharaj, Khandaddhari Mata, Kailapir, Nag deity, Ghandiyal deity, Bal Kandar, Nagni Devi, Kachadu deity of Ranadi, Ringali Devi of Dunda, Nagraja of Dhanari region, etc. and took a holy dip in the Ganga.
