CM Rekha Gupta Launches Electric Double Decker Tourism Bus Service to Showcase Delhi’s Heritage and Modern Landmarks
CM Rekha Gupta has launched the “Dekho Meri Delhi” electric double-decker bus service to offer an eco-friendly and curated city tour experience.
CM Rekha Gupta has launched the “Dekho Meri Delhi” electric double decker bus service, offering a curated city experience that combines heritage, culture and modern infrastructure in a single journey. Flagged off from Rafi Marg, the initiative is designed to provide residents and visitors with an organized and eco friendly way to explore key landmarks, while also positioning Delhi as a contemporary global tourism destination.
The Chief Minister personally traveled on the inaugural route from Vijay Chowk to Pradhanmantri Sangrahalaya, highlighting the experiential nature of the service. The buses are currently being operated under the Delhi tourism department and are part of a broader effort to revive iconic urban mobility formats with modern technology.
This initiative marks the return of double decker buses to Delhi after nearly four decades. Once a familiar sight in the city during the 1960s and 1970s, these buses were phased out due to maintenance challenges and infrastructure limitations. Their reintroduction in an electric format reflects both technological advancement and a renewed focus on clean public transport solutions.
The selected route passes through several prominent destinations including India Gate, National War Memorial, National Museum and National Gallery of Modern Art, offering passengers a comprehensive overview of Delhi’s historical and cultural landscape. The route has been carefully chosen to ensure smooth movement, with adequate road width and minimal overhead obstruction.
Each bus is equipped to accommodate over sixty passengers across two levels, providing a comfortable and elevated viewing experience. With a full charge range of approximately 150 to 170 kilometers, the buses are designed for efficient daily operations while maintaining environmental sustainability.
Ticketing has been made accessible through both online and offline channels, allowing tourists to plan their journeys with ease. Pricing has been structured to remain inclusive while supporting premium sightseeing experiences.
The launch reflects a strategic blend of tourism development and green mobility. By integrating electric transport with curated city routes, the administration aims to enhance visitor engagement while reducing the environmental footprint of urban travel.
Through this initiative, the Rekha Gupta government is working to redefine how Delhi is experienced, combining convenience, sustainability and storytelling to create a distinctive and memorable tourism offering.
