CM Rekha Gupta Clarifies Pink Card Policy, Pushes Transparency and Seamless Travel in Delhi Bus System

CM Rekha Gupta has issued a clear clarification, reaffirming that women commuters in Delhi can switch between buses without any waiting restriction. Addressing concerns and countering misinformation, the Chief Minister stated that the Pink Card remains valid across multiple buses regardless of time gaps between journeys. The clarification not only restores confidence among commuters but also highlights the Rekha Gupta government’s focus on seamless mobility and transparent public transport systems.

The controversy emerged after claims circulated suggesting that a mandatory gap of 60 minutes was required between two bus rides for the Pink Card to function. CM Gupta dismissed these claims as misleading and politically motivated, asserting that there is no such restriction in place. She emphasized that whether the gap between two journeys is five minutes or twenty minutes, the Pink Card will continue to work without interruption.

Encouraging women to adopt the system without hesitation, the Chief Minister urged them not to be influenced by rumors and to proceed with getting their Pink Cards issued. She also informed that the registration process for the Pink Card will continue for the next three months, giving ample time for beneficiaries to enroll.

Explaining the rationale behind the transition from the earlier ticket based system to the Pink Card, CM Gupta pointed out that the previous model lacked accurate tracking of beneficiaries and transparency in payments. According to her, the Pink Card system ensures that every यात्रा is digitally recorded, enabling accountability and reducing the scope for discrepancies. This shift is expected to streamline subsidy delivery and ensure that benefits reach actual users.

The move is part of a broader restructuring of Delhi’s public transport system. Bus operations in the capital are now fully managed by the Delhi Transport Corporation, following the discontinuation of DIMTS. The DTC fleet currently includes over 6100 buses, with a significant share of more than 4350 electric buses and around 1750 CNG buses.

Looking ahead, the Rekha Gupta government aims to transition the entire fleet to electric mobility and expand the total number of buses to 14000. The Pink Card initiative, combined with fleet modernization, reflects a larger vision of accessible, efficient, and environmentally sustainable public transport in Delhi.
