Haryana CM Nayab Singh Saini has introduced a series of measures aimed at transforming sanitation systems across Haryana. From mandating a uniform dress code for sanitation workers to deploying camera enabled monitoring of cleaning machines, the initiative reflects a shift toward technology driven oversight and structured service delivery. The move comes as part of pre monsoon preparedness, ensuring that cities remain resilient against waterlogging and sanitation challenges.

During a review meeting of the Urban Local Bodies Department on March 30, 2026, CM Saini directed officials to begin preparations for drain cleaning, water drainage, and overall sanitation management well before the onset of monsoon. He emphasized the need to identify vulnerable locations prone to water accumulation and implement alternative drainage solutions to prevent disruptions during heavy rainfall.

A key highlight of the meeting was the integration of technology into sanitation operations. The Chief Minister instructed the use of RFID based systems and GPS enabled waste collection to improve tracking and transparency. These systems will allow real time monitoring of sanitation activities, ensuring that services are delivered efficiently and consistently across urban areas.

To further enhance accountability, CM Saini ordered the installation of four cameras on sweeping machines. This will enable continuous monitoring of agency performance. Strict compliance measures have also been introduced. If sensors installed in machines are found inactive during operations, payments to agencies will be withheld. Additionally, agencies will be required to submit video evidence of their work along with monthly bills, and penalties of ₹1,250 per hour will be imposed for non compliance.

The Chief Minister also directed the implementation of a standardized dress code for sanitation workers across the state, along with the provision of proper footwear and essential safety equipment. This step aims to ensure dignity, safety, and uniformity in the workforce.

Special focus has been placed on major urban centers such as Faridabad and Gurugram, where sanitation, water availability, and drainage systems need robust management. CM Saini also instructed that rainwater harvesting systems be made operational in all government buildings and that additional water conservation measures be explored.

The initiative reflects the Nayab Singh Saini government’s emphasis on combining infrastructure readiness with technological oversight, ensuring cleaner cities, improved service delivery, and greater accountability in urban governance.
