In an incident on Wednesday, a migrant laborer hailing from Bihar was shot dead by terrorists in Bijbehara, located in the Anantnag district of Jammu and Kashmir. This marks the second targeted attack in the region within just 10 days, indicating a worrisome trend of violence against non-locals.

The victim, identified as Raju Shah, was subjected to gunfire by terrorists, leaving him critically injured. Swift action was taken to rush Shah to a nearby hospital for urgent medical treatment. Despite efforts by medical personnel, he tragically succumbed to his injuries, highlighting the grave consequences of such senseless acts of violence.

Expressing source of distress over the heinous attack, prominent political figures from Jammu and Kashmir, including former CM Farooq Abdullah and Omar Abdullah, condemned the incident.

The National Conference, through a statement, strongly denounced the act of terror, emphasizing its detrimental impact on the peace and stability of the region.

Similarly, leaders such as Mehbooba Mufti, the president of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), extended their condolences to Shah’s grieving family, denouncing the killing as a senseless act of violence. Mufti emphasized the need for unity and solidarity in the face of such atrocities, urging for concerted efforts to restore peace and security in the region.

Ghulam Nabi Azad, chairman of the Democratic Progressive Azad Party (DPAP) and a former chief minister, echoed the sentiments of condemnation.

Azad emphasized the desire of the people for peace, contrasting it with the disruptive intentions of militants. He called for unified action against such violence, stressing the importance of standing together in the pursuit of peace.

This terrifying incident comes just days after another violent attack on April 8, where a migrant taxi driver from Delhi was targeted and severely injured in Herpora Shopian. The recurrence of such incidents underscores the ongoing challenges faced by non-local residents in the region and the urgent need for comprehensive measures to ensure their safety and security.
