Al-Falah University’s Terror Links: Delhi Blast Probe Reveals Connection to Ahmedabad Blast Terrorist
The NIA probe in the Delhi Suicide Bombing case has unearthed a shocking revelation, one which could turn out to be a damning indictment against Al-Falah Univeristy located in Haryana’s Faridabad. The Varsity is currently embroiled in major controversy involving allegations of multiple wrongdoings including it being a safe haven for terrorists, hub for plotting terror conspiracy and financial irregularities. However, the Delhi suicide bombing probe has revealed that Jihadi Doctor Umar Nabi was not the first terrorist whose connections emerged with this controversial university. Strikingly, the Ahmedabad and Jaipur serial bomb explosion accused and Indian Mujahideen (IM) terrorist Mirza Shadab Baig was also a student of this terror-tainted Faridabad university.
Multiple media reports have stated that Mirza Shadab Baig, a key member of terrorist outfit Indian Mujahideen (IM), also studied at the Al-Falah university. Baig, a resident of Azamgarh in Uttar Pradesh, completed his B.Tech in Electronics and Instrumentation from Al-Falah in 2007.
As per sources, Baig was studying at Al-Falah when he was hatching the conspiracy for the blasts. He was also involved in the Gorakhpur blasts in 2007 and when his connections came out during the probe, his property was seized.
As per reports, Baig visited Karnataka’s Udupi in 2008 to collect the explosives for the Jaipur blasts. There he supplied a large number of detonators and bearings to IM terrorists Riyaz Bhatkal and Yasin Bhatkal. A student of Instrumentation engineering, Baig has dealt with designing and implementing control systems and automation technologies, making him familiar with all the technical aspects of making a bomb.
To carry out the Ahmedabad blasts, Baig completed recce 15 days before the explosions. Three teams were constituted to carry out the blasts. These included Qayamuddin Kapadia, Mujeeb Sheikh, and Abdul Raziq. Atif Amin and Mirza Shadab Baig were also a part of these teams. He arranged all the logistics for the terror strikes and prepared the bombs as well as trained other IM members before the blasts.
Baig is currently on the run and he was last traced to Afghanistan in 2019. He carries a reward of Rs 1 lakh on his head.
Serial Blasts
The Gorakhpur, Jaipur, and Ahmedabad bombings resulted in multiple casualties. The 2007 Gorakhpur blasts injured six, the 2008 Jaipur blasts killed over 60, and the Ahmedabad blasts claimed more than 50 lives. Police in both states attributed the attacks to members of the IM, a radical faction of the banned Students Islamic Movement of India (SIMI).
The recent Red Fort suicide bombing involving Al-Falah Doctor Dr. Umar Nabi, occurred hours after the arrest of eight people—including three doctors—and the seizure of 2,900 kg of explosives, is part of a wider probe into a terror module involving Jaish-e-Mohammed and Ansar Ghazwat-ul-Hind, with links across Kashmir, Haryana, and Uttar Pradesh.
