BJP Government Swearing-In Set for June 10 in Odisha, Confirm Party Sources
In a historic turn of events, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is gearing up for its first-ever government in Odisha. Following their remarkable victory in the state assembly elections, where they secured 78 seats, along with two independent winners who have pledged their allegiance to the party, the BJP’s strength now stands at 80 in the 147-member Odisha Assembly.
The party’s triumph marks a significant increase in voter support, with the BJP garnering a little over 40% of the total votes, showcasing a remarkable surge of nearly eight percent compared to the 2019 elections.
As the excitement builds, senior leaders of the BJP have revealed that the swearing-in ceremony is scheduled to take place on June 10th at Bhubaneswar’s Janata Maidan. Top leaders from the central leadership are expected to arrive in Odisha within the next few days to engage with the newly elected MLAs and deliberate on the selection of the next chief minister.
Amidst the anticipation, several prominent figures are being considered for the coveted position of Chief Minister. Notable contenders include former Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan, the party’s national vice-president Baijayant Panda, senior leader Suresh Pujari, Puri MP Sambit Patra, former Union Tribal Affairs Minister Jual Oram, and former Chief Whip Mohan Majhi.
The preparations for the swearing-in ceremony are in full swing, with the state government mobilizing 50 senior officers, including nine IAS, one Odisha Finance Service (OFS), and 40 other senior Odisha Administrative Service (OAS) officers to oversee the event.
Looking ahead, the BJP government’s priorities are already taking shape. In its first cabinet meeting, key agenda items are expected to include the opening of all four doors of the Jagannath Temple in Puri, the presentation of the Raghubir Das judicial commission of inquiry report into the disappearance of keys of Ratna Bhandar, and the announcement of a minimum support price of Rs. 3,100 per quintal for the purchase of paddy, as promised in the BJP’s manifesto.
As the BJP prepares to assume power in Odisha, the state braces itself for a new era of governance under the leadership of the party, promising significant developments and reforms in the days to come.
