From EAM S. Jaishankar Slamming Pakistan at UNGA to Stampede in TVK Chief Vijay’s Rally: Top News of the Day

EAM S Jaishankar’s fiery UNGA address: Slams Pakistan, warns global powers on trade practices
At the UNGA, External Affairs Minister Dr. S. Jaishankar launched a sharp attack on Pakistan, calling it the epicentre of global terrorism.
Without explicitly naming Islamabad, he stated that major global terror attacks for decades have a single source, with UN-designated terrorists heavily linked to nationals of one country.
He referred to the Pahalgam killings of tourists in April as a fresh instance of “cross-border barbarism,” highlighting that India has brought the perpetrators to justice.
He cautioned that terrorism is a shared global threat, and when nations glorify terrorists or adopt terrorism as state policy, the international community must condemn such actions without ambiguity.
EAM S. Jaishankar pushed for choking terror financing and dismantling the broader terrorism ecosystem while warning that those who condone terror sponsors will themselves face consequences.
Shifting focus, he issued a veiled warning to major global powers like the US and China, criticizing arbitrary tariffs, coercive supply chains, and technology restrictions that disrupt fair trade practices.
He pointed out that non-market practices have manipulated trade rules, leading to tariff volatility and restricted access, thereby making de-risking a necessity for many nations.
Stressing India’s independent stance, he declared: “As the world’s most populous nation and a civilizational state, Bharat will always preserve its freedom of choice and act as the voice of the Global South.”
He accused wealthier nations of resource hoarding during global crises, while still delivering self-righteous lectures to developing nations, exposing inequalities in the existing global order.
Concluding his fiery address, Jaishankar asserted that India will remain confident, independent, and committed to equitable cooperation, while continuing its fight against terrorism and unfair economic practices.
Stampede at Vijay’s Karur Rally Kills 39, Over 100 Injured; Security Tightened at Actor’s Home as Govt Orders Judicial Probe and TVK Leaders Face Homicide Case
Security has been tightened at actor-politician Vijay’s Chennai home after the Karur rally stampede. Government sources say the step was taken as public anger may turn toward him following the tragedy.
The Karur rally of Vijay’s party, Tamizhaga Vetri Kazhagam (TVK), ended in a devastating stampede that killed 39 people and injured over 100. Multiple women and children were among the victims.
State government sources allege that the rally violated police guidelines. Organisers reportedly failed to provide proper arrangements for drinking water, food, and crowd control, which contributed to people collapsing in the packed venue.
Vijay, the 51-year-old actor and TVK chief, reportedly arrived nearly 7 hours late at the venue. While people had been gathered at the ground since afternoon, he reached only after 7 pm, worsening crowd chaos.
During Vijay’s speech, several people fainted inside the venue, but ambulances were allegedly not allowed to enter while the programme continued. This delay in response added to the toll.
The Tamil Nadu government has announced a judicial inquiry into the incident, to be headed by a retired High Court judge, to ensure accountability for the failures in planning and crowd management.
Three top TVK functionaries, including general secretary N Anand, joint general secretary Nirmal Kumar, and Karur West secretary VP Mathiyazhagan, now face a police case on charges of culpable homicide not amounting to murder and violation of safety rules.
Chief Minister MK Stalin visited the injured in hospital and met families of those killed. He expressed deep grief, saying the cries of the families and their pain have left a lasting impact on him.
Responding to the tragedy, Vijay posted on X: “My heart is shattered; I am writhing in unbearable, indescribable pain and sorrow… I extend my deepest condolences to the families and pray for swift recovery of the injured.”
India Slams Pakistan at UNGA, Calls It a Global Menace With Terror ‘Fingerprints’ Worldwide
At the UNGA, Indian diplomat Rentala Srinivas launched a sharp attack on Pakistan, exposing its deep-rooted links with global terror networks.
Srinivas said: “Pakistan’s reputation speaks for itself. Its fingerprints are visible in terrorism across many geographies. It is a menace not just to its neighbours but to the entire world.”
Without naming Pakistan, Srinivas added: “No arguments or untruths can whitewash the crimes of Terroristan.”
He highlighted that terrorism sponsored by Pakistan has destabilised regions globally, leaving behind a consistent trail of violence that cannot be ignored.
India underlined that Pakistan tries to escape accountability through false narratives, but history and facts clearly expose its role in fostering extremism.
Indian representatives also walked out of the General Assembly during Pakistan PM Shehbaz Sharif’s address, signalling New Delhi’s rejection of his rhetoric.
Srinivas pointed out the irony that a neighbour, though not named, “chose to nevertheless respond” — indirectly admitting its decades-long practice of exporting terror.
India reiterated at the UN that Pakistan stands isolated on the global stage, and no amount of diplomatic rebuttals can erase its reputation as a breeding ground for terrorism.

Indore Garba Row: Mohammad Hamid Raza Held for Entering with Fake Hindu Identity
A tense situation unfolded at a Navratri Garba festival in Indore’s Khajrana area, where a Muslim man Mohammad Hamid Raza was accused of attending the event under a false Hindu identity.
The accused has been identified as Mohammad Hamid Raza, who allegedly disguised himself as “Rahul” to gain entry.
According to reports, Raza was seen repeatedly keeping watch on a young woman inside the venue, which aroused the suspicion of organizers.
Organizers demanded verification and on checking his Aadhaar card, his real identity as a Muslim man was revealed.
Bajrang Dal members caught Raza and thrashed him on the spot, before police reached the scene.
Based on Bajrang Dal’s complaint, police have registered a case and further questioning is underway to determine Raza’s intentions.
In several districts of Madhya Pradesh, ID cards have now been made mandatory for Garba entry to prevent such incidents.
Hindu organizations allege that some Muslim youths conceal their identity with fake Hindu names to enter Garba venues, with the motive of targeting Hindu girls during the festival.
The police are currently investigating Raza’s true motive behind using a fake Hindu identity and entering the event.
