Modi Govt Delivers Historic Reform: Waqf Bill 2025 Ends Decades of Misuse, Empowers Poor Muslims Without Appeasement

- Parliament passes Waqf (Amendment) Bill 2025 with focus on transparency and social welfare
- Modi government aims to uplift poor and Pasmanda Muslims through inclusive reforms
- Bill ensures better governance of Waqf properties without interfering in religious rights
In a significant step for better governance and transparency, the Parliament has passed the Waqf (Amendment) Bill, 2025, with the Rajya Sabha giving its approval after a 12-hour-long debate. The bill was supported by 128 members in the Upper House, while 95 members voted against it. The Lok Sabha had already passed the bill earlier, making it a big success for the Narendra Modi-led NDA government.
The Waqf (Amendment) Bill, 2025 aims to streamline the management of Waqf properties. It has important provisions to safeguard heritage sites, improve governance, and promote social welfare, especially for poor Muslims. One of the key goals of the Bill is to empower Muslim women, including widows and divorced women, by ensuring their economic and social rights are protected.
Minority Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju strongly defended the bill in Parliament. He said the government wants to bring poor Muslims, especially Pasmanda Muslims, into the mainstream. He clarified that the bill does not interfere in religious practices or Waqf properties. Instead, it strengthens the system to prevent corruption and misuse. He added that the Waqf Board will now be more inclusive, with members from various Muslim sects for better representation. Out of 11 members in the Waqf Board, only 3 can be non-Muslims, showing that the NDA government respects the religious nature of the institution.
Union Home Minister Amit Shah also exposed the false claims made by the opposition. He said that the Congress and other parties are trying to mislead the people by spreading fear. BJP leaders like Radha Mohan Das and Sudhanshu Trivedi highlighted that the opposition had failed to help poor Muslims in the past. In contrast, PM Modi has taken a bold step to ensure transparency and justice for the underprivileged in the Muslim community.
The Bill also received support from former Prime Minister HD Devegowda, who appreciated the move and said that Waqf properties have been misused in the past by influential people in the community. The BJP government wants to stop this and use the properties for the benefit of poor Muslims.
Parliament also passed the Mussalman Wakf (Repeal) Bill, 2025, which removes the outdated Mussalman Wakf Act, 1923. This shows the Modi government’s commitment to modernizing laws and promoting equal development for all, under the vision of “Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas.”
This bold and reformative step proves that the NDA government works for all sections of society, without appeasement or discrimination.
